Anti-mosquito Measures

Safe Use of Lifts and Escalators

We also join the Electrical and Mechanical Services Department's "E&M Safety Campaign 2008" to arrange more educational activities for the tenants.

Free Wi-Fi Service in Public Housing Estates

Picture: Free Wi-Fi service in public housing estatesFree Wireless Fidelity (WiFi) service catering for public rental housing (PRH) tenants has expanded coverage to nearly all PRH estates.

From September 2008 onwards, two information and communication technology (ICT) service vendors have been providing free WiFi service at about 150 PRH estates. Service is available at ground floor lift lobbies and outdoor recreational areas. Tenants can enjoy free WiFi service at nearby areas wherever they see "Free WiFi" stickers. Certain estates are served by the two ICT service vendors, offering choices for tenants.

WiFi service is directly provided by ICT service vendors that are responsible for the installation and operation of the systems at their own costs; whereas the Housing Authority provides basic communal facilities such as power supplies, cable ducts and conduits. Please contact the relevant ICT service vendor or estate office in case of any problems or enquiries.

Community Participation Scheme - Action Seedling

Picture: Community Participation Scheme - Action SeedlingThe Hong Kong Housing Authority (HA) has always been committed to providing affordable public housing for the needy people in Hong Kong. We strive to achieve sustainability by taking proactive measures in the implementation of our public housing programmes. Throughout the planning, design and construction stages, we give due consideration to factors such as functional performance and cost effectiveness of the buildings, as well as environmental concerns like greening. Our aim is to provide functional, safe and comfortable public housing, thereby raising the living standard of our tenants.

To effectively accomplish our mission, we need the support of the construction industry, residents and community organizations. Towards this end, we have launched a Community Participation Scheme to enhance our partnership with the contractors, public housing tenants and the community at large. A recent initiative under the Scheme is "Action Seedling" which encourages community participation in the greening of new housing estates at an early stage.

"Action Seedling" will be rolled out in 14 public housing projects due for completion in the next two years. Through Estate Management Advisory Committees, local schools and community organizations, seedling plants will be given out by the HA and its building contractors to participants who will nurture the plants at home until they are fit for transplanting into the planters of the new estates.

We believe that apart from creating a greener and more pleasant environment, the programme will also help foster a greater sense of belonging among the residents and the community. Furthermore, it will provide an opportunity for our contractors to play their part in greening and environmental protection.
