Housing Authority calls for reinforcement of safety culture (Thursday, 10 July 2008)
The Hong Kong Housing Authority and Occupational Safety & Health Council jointly organised the second "Works Contracts and Property Services Contracts Site Safety Forum" today (July 10) to raise awareness towards safety in the workplace. This forum follows their first collaboration in 2007 which invited all industry partners to sign a Safety Charter pledging to working in partnership to foster a safety culture. Over a thousand participants coming from the fields of construction, property management, maintenance and cleansing attended today's forum, held at the Hongkong International Trade and Exhibition Centre.
In the forum, CEOs of construction, maintenance and property management companies were invited to share their successful business models through interactive discussions which were well received by participants.
Opening the forum, Mr Thomas Chan, Director of Housing, reiterated that partnership is the key factor in building a safety culture. He thanked Mr Lee Kai Ming, Chairman of the Occupational Safety & Health Council, as well as all the other supporting organisations for their concerted efforts in promoting safety in the workplace. While the forum has provided an occasion for sharing of valuable experience and best practice, initiatives such as the "Safety Climate Index Survey" and "Safety & Healthy Estate Accreditation Scheme" have brought new dimensions to partnering for a safety culture, he said.
