Section D: Clearance

Chapter 1: Clearance

Following the transfer of the squatter control and clearance duties from the Housing Department to the Lands Department effective from 1 April 2006, the Housing Department no longer acts on behalf of the Government to clear land for development or other purposes.

As the Government's rehousing agent, the Housing Department retains the responsibilities for rehousing of the eligible clearees affected in clearance exercises initiated by the Government and providing assistance to victims of natural disasters and other emergency incidents.
