In 1987, the Hong Kong Government reviewed the housing policy and decided to continue to provide adequate housing resources to the people of Hong Kong. A Comprehensive Redevelopment Programme (CRP) was then launched to include redevelopment of the public rental housing (PRH) blocks of Mark III to Mark VI and the former Government Low Cost Housing Estates.
Furthermore, in the White Paper of the Long Term Housing Strategy (1998), old PRH estates that were not included in the CRP would also be redeveloped on a selective estate-by-estate basis. North Point Estate was the first estate selected outside the CRP and its rehousing arrangement was completed in August 2002.
The objectives of PRH redevelopment are to improve the living conditions of PRH estates with standards below present expectations, to enhance utilization of land and to implement environmental improvement.
Rehousing of households living in the CRP blocks will start 18 to 24 months before the evacuation date so that the affected families can have ample time to arrange for removal. Individual household will be informed in writing for rehousing registration. Affected households need to provide required information of their households on the Redevelopment Rehousing Application Form for the purpose of rehousing processing. Rehousing registration is free of charge.
