Squatter Control Following the transfer of the squatter control and clearance duties from the Housing Department (HD) to the Lands Department (LandsD) effective from 1 April 2006, the HD is no longer responsible for the prevention and control of illegal structures on undeveloped Government land and leased agricultural land in the territory. Squatter areas in the whole territory are under the management of the LandsD. Enquiries on squatter control policy should be addressed to the LandsD.
Squatter Clearance and Rehousing Following the transfer of the squatter control and clearance duties from the Housing Department (HD) to the Lands Department (LandsD) effective from 1 April 2006, the HD no longer acts on behalf of the Government to clear land for development or other purposes. As the Government's rehousing agent, the HD retains the responsibilities for rehousing of the eligible clearees affected in clearance exercises initiated by the Government and providing assistance to victims of natural disasters and other emergency incidents.
