Public rental housing (PRH) is provided to families in genuine need who cannot afford adequate private accommodation.
There are about 710 000 public rental flats in the Housing Authority's (HA) portfolio, housing approximately two million people. At present, there are some 120 000 applicants on the Waiting List. We have been striving to reduce the average waiting time for a public rental flat, by increasing housing production and encouraging upward mobility among existing tenants. We have now achieved the target of maintaining the average waiting time at around three years.
