HA Supports Green Activities
The Housing Authority (HA) announced jointly with four other corporations on 20 January their partnership with the Electrical Vehicle Leasing Scheme initiated by CLP Power Hong Kong Limited. The scheme aims to promote wider adoption of electrical vehicles for cleaner air in Hong Kong. The HA encouraged its contractor to use a leased electrical vehicle in its Kai Tak public housing development project. In line with the HA's low carbon construction initiatives, this pilot scheme helps explore the feasibility of using electrical vehicles in other construction projects in future.
Apart from supporting environmentally friendly measures in construction projects, we are active in promoting green living in the community. Participating again this year in the Green Carnival organised by the Green Council on 16 January, we disseminated green messages in four aspects - clothing, eating, accommodation and transportation, through display panels and a game booth.
Internally, we also encourage our staff to protect the environment. Joining hands with a non-profit-making group, we launched the Year End Environmental Collection and Recycling Campaign in mid January. With enthusiastic support from our colleagues, about 2.4 tonnes of reusable items were collected, including electrical appliances, clothes, shoes, bags, household items, beddings, books and toys, etc. The items would be sold at affordable prices to low-income families in a community second-hand shop in Sham Shui Po. The campaign not only helps those in need and the less privileged sector of society, but also promotes waste reduction and re-use of resources and enhances the awareness of environmental protection among HA staff.
