Pok Hong Market in Sha Tin under the Hong Kong Housing Authority has been renovated and opened for business to serve the residents.

The Housing Department (HD) team has revamped the layout of the market, installed air-conditioning system, widened the passages between stalls, improved the lighting and drainage systems, etc. Adopting an open-plan design, the market creates a spacious shopping environment for residents. The renovation has brought a fresh new look to the market and enabled residents to shop in a spacious, pleasant, convenient, and more hygienic environment.

The market contains a total of 50 stalls, providing a wide variety of goods including fresh foods, dried seafood, daily necessities, and a live poultry stall to meet the needs of residents. Some cooked food stalls are also introduced to widen the choices for residents and bring more customers to the market.

The team had encountered a lot of challenges during the process of renovation works, such as identifying suitable space for construction of the transformer room, providing temporary stalls for all existing stall operators to continue their business during the works period, utilising the estate common areas for carrying out the works, building a cover over the estate common areas to connect the market and the shopping centre, renovating the poultry stall to fulfil the licensing requirements, and tackling the impact of the epidemic on the progress of works. Through close liaison with relevant parties including market stall tenants, the Incorporated Owners of Pok Hong Estate, government departments and the power company; the team had overcome all challenges and handed over the new stalls to tenants as scheduled.

On 14 December 2022, Ms Josephine Shu, Assistant Director of the HD and the HD team were invited to the event organised by the Pok Hong Estate Commercial Association to celebrate the completion of the renovation works for the market. The Chairman of the Association expressed his gratitude to the team for their efforts in renovating the market, which provides a pleasant and hygienic environment for residents to shop and for stall tenants to run their business.
