Green Delight in Estates
Green Estate Ambassadors Training
To assist in launching various environmental initiatives in estates, Green Estate Ambassadors were recruited from Estate Management Advisory Committees (EMACs), schools, non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and public rental housing estates to provide voluntary support in these events. In the first five phases of the GDE programme, we have recruited around 10,000 Green Estate Ambassadors to build a team of volunteers with sound environmental knowledge.
After recruitment, a series of training programmes, including training workshops and guided tours, were provided to the Green Estate Ambassadors to equip them with environmental knowledge and communication skills. The training workshops provided the Green Estate Ambassadors with both basic and specific environmental knowledge such as identification of trees and butterflies. For the guided visits, we went to diverse places including Kadoorie Farm & Botanic Garden, Eco-park and Hong Kong Wetland Park. Through the training programmes, the Green Estate Ambassadors were able to acquire in-depth understanding on different environment aspects, to learn how to spread green messages within the community and to assist others in adopting environment-friendly habits in their daily lives. After completion of the training, Green Estate Ambassadors were invited to support launching various environmental education activities in the estates and help coordinate some GDE programmes such as carnivals, Used Goods Exchange Square and Flower Bed Design Competitions. Some of the active Green Estate Ambassadors had initiated environmental activities in their own estates to promote green concepts to the residents with the support from NGOs. To recognise the contribution and efforts of Green Estate Ambassadors, certificates, awards or souvenirs were presented to those actively participating in green activities.
