Mr TAN Guong Ching is the Chief Executive Officer of Singapore's public housing authority, the Housing and Development Board (HDB) which was set-up in 1960. Mr Tan heads today, an organisation that has successfully housed 86 percent of the Singapore population in affordable and quality homes.

Before assuming the post of Chief Executive Officer of HDB in April 1995, Mr TAN Guong Ching's career in the Singapore Civil Service spanned several Ministries. Among other positions held, he was the Principal Private Secretary to the Prime Minister and the Permanent Secretary of the ministries of the Environment and Communications.

Mr TAN initiated several major projects during his civil service career. These include Neighbourhood Policing, Civil Defence, commissioning of the Mass Rapid Transport system, the corporatisation of Singapore Telecom, and the reorganisation of the Telecommunications Authority of Singapore.

Mr TAN was appointed HDB Board Member in June 1995. He is also the Chairman of Singapore Technologies Marine Ltd, Singapore Technologies Telemedia Pte Ltd, ST Telecommunications Pte Ltd, and PowerGrid Ltd. In addition, he holds directorships in several other companies including Singapore Technologies Engineering Ltd, StarHub Pte Ltd, and TechPower Communications Pte Ltd.
