Professor Y. C. Richard Wong Yue-Chim Richard WONG is
Professor of Economics and Director of the School of Business at the University of Hong
Kong. He was born in Shanghai, grew up in Hong Kong, and studied economics at the
University of Chicago (A.B., A.M. 1974, and Ph.D. 1981).
He had previously taught at the Chinese
University of Hong Kong (1976-92), was Visiting Scholar at the University of Chicago
(1985) and at Stanford University (1989), and has published widely in international
journals and produced several books, including, The Fifth Dragon : Emergence of the Pearl
River Delta (co-author, Addison Wesley 1995), Port Facilities and Container Handling
Services (co-author, City U Press and Commercial Press 1997), and On Privatisation of
Public Housing (City U Press and Commercial Press 1998).
He is a leading figure in advancing economic
research on policy issues in Hong Kong through his work as founding Director (1987-) of
the Hong Kong Centre for Economic Research. He is a member of the Hong Kong Government's
Economic Advisory Committee (1992-), Hong Kong Committee of the Pacific Economic
Co-operation Council (1992-), University Grants Committee (1993-), Housing Authority
(1998-), Services Promotion Strategy Group (1998-), and Exchange Fund Advisory Committee
(1999-).
