It is made up of approximately 7 400 public rental housing flats. Situated in the heart of Kowloon, Choi Hung Estate benefits from its central location but is surrounded by highways due to the rapid urbanisation of the East Kowloon District since the 1960s. HA decided to proceed with a redevelopment study for Choi Hung Estate in December 2023. This redevelopment is estimated to yield around 9 200 flats, resulting in a net increase of approximately 1 800 flats. Apart from the provision of public housing, the additional housing presents an opportunity for the Government to address the heavy traffic congestion at the adjacent Choi Hung Interchange and improve the pedestrian network to enhance connectivity. The integration of new social welfare and educational facilities will also foster stronger connections between the estate and neighbouring communities such as Ngau Chi Wan, Kai Tak, and Diamond
