We also deployed new tools and equipment to combat rodent infestations in estates, such as T-shape and tunnel type bait boxes and alcohol rodent trapping devices. Mobile Surveillance Systems utilising motion detection sensors were also installed at locations with more serious rodent problems; these enabled us to gain a clear sense of rodent activities and formulate targeted rodent prevention and control strategies and measures. Since rodents are often most active at night, we set up night-time cleansing patrol teams in our PRH estates, and equipped estate staff with handheld thermal imaging cameras to detect and monitor rodent activities during the night. At junk collection points (JCPs) on estates, we took various measures to improve hygiene and reduce pests. These included increasing the frequency of the use of grab lorries to remove accumulated refuse, cordoning off the JCPs, and installing CCTVs at blackspots to prevent unscrupulous dumping. We also engaged pest control companies to carry out rodent disinfestation services in our PRH estates. We will continue to select 80 priority estates each year at which we will carry out intensive anti-rodent measures, along with publicity and education work.Smart Estate Management HA has been promoting smart estate management. To further its efforts, it has selected 10 public housing estates as smart management pilot sites, where suitable innovative technologies (such as Internet-of-things sensors, artificial intelligence (AI) and mobile devices) have been introduced to assist with estate management tasks. Such tasks include monitoring environmental hygiene (e.g. combating fly-tipping), enhancing security, monitoring the operating condition of major public facilities, energy management, and checking maintenance works. We have been piloting the use of AI to analyse video footage of objects falling from height to assist in identifying the related video segments of the incidents, bringing greater precision and efficiency in the work of collecting evidence.
