Araucaria cunninghamii

Also known as the Hoop Pine, it is an evergreen native to the coastal area of southeastern Oceania. The tree grows fast in its native region but slowly in Hong Kong.

The group of Hoop Pines located within former barracks, was retained in-situ near the driveway near Wong Sheng House. You can easily gauge the approximate height of the former barracks from the clearance under the lowest branches.

About exotic species...

Exotic species generally refer to species that were not originally distributed in the local area, but were introduced unintentionally or deliberately by humans.

Being an exotic species does not mean such plant is invasive. Appropriate use of exotic species can enhance landscape design and broaden biodiversity. For example, some commonly found fruit trees and ornamental plants, such as the Hoop Pine in front of you, as well as the Yellow Pui, Flame Tree, and Queen Lagerstroemia are exotic species imported aboard.
