The Big-leaved banyan is a native species in Hong Kong. The board tree crown provides shade to pedestrians and can be commonly found in Hong Kong.

The tree was preserved in-situ.

This is not a typical banyan tree…

Most banyan trees in Hong Kong are evergreen species. However, Ficus virens is one of the few deciduous trees. The species possess some morphological differences to other banyan trees. For example, the aerial roots of the Ficus virens are usually not as evident as Ficus.

Although being a flowering tree, you will have a hard time identifying flowers during it blossom as the flower is hidden in the hypanthodium, and is not visible to our naked eyes, only small insects such as fig wasp can enter for pollination.
