Designs of Wooden Benches

Two kinds of wooden benches, designed in response to the shapes of the tree trunks used to create them, are situated near Wong Wui House. One type is designed in a square form, the other in a Y-shape. Each square wooden bench is divided into four pieces from a single tree trunk log. The interior side of each piece is polished and smoothened into a bench surface, while the original texture of the back is retained and is turned into the centre of the bench. The four pieces are reassembled to form a square bench. The Y-shaped bench comes from a forked tree trunk, which is vertically divided into two pieces. Fine touches are added to the shape to create a distinctive appearance.

Four wooden benches arranged in an arc shape to complement the nearby curved planters are situated near Wong Lok House. The artist has put considerable thought into the design of the armrests of the wooden benches. In the process, it was necessary to select suitable wood blocks, retain their natural character, and refine them through cutting and polishing, to showcase and accentuate the intrinsic beauty of the wood as much as possible.
