In collaboration with the Community Recycling Coop of Industrial Relations Institute, a non-profit making charity organisation, the Hong Kong Housing Authority (HA) has organised the “Year End Environmental Collection and Recycling Campaign” early this year. Staff members were encouraged to reduce and recycle surplus household items during the Lunar New Year cleaning by donating them to the needy for further use. The campaign was held at the HA Headquarters, Lung Cheung Office Block in Wong Tai Sin and the HA Customer Service Centre in Lok Fu. With the enthusiastic support of the staff, over 2.2 tonnes of reusable items were collected, including electrical appliances, clothes, shoes, handbags, books, stationeries, toys, cooking utensils, bedding and sports items, as well as decorations, etc. |

Apart from supporting environmental protection internally, we are active in promoting green living in the community. We joined hands with the Estate Management Advisory Committees (EMAC) again in March to launch the Estate Green Fun Day, in a bid to heighten public rental housing (PRH) tenants’ awareness of environmental protection and to promote waste reduction and recycling in estates. The Estate Green Fun Day was held in six PRH estates, namely Yau Tong, Tin Ching, Cheung Hong, Shek Yam, Mei Lam and Yue Wan Estates. The message of green living was disseminated through various display panels, environmental videos, game booths and quiz games. The participants were encouraged to adopt various green initiatives. The campaign was well received by the tenants, the children and the elderly in particular. |
