Hong Kong Housing Authority and Housing Department

Fully recognising that safety and health at work is vital to its employees and being dedicated to providing and maintaining a safe and healthy workplace for all its staff, the Hong Kong Housing Authority (HA) has developed an occupational health and safety management system in the Housing Department Materials Testing Laboratory (HDMTL) to continuously enhance its occupational safety and health performance.

With the concerted effort of the HDMTL and Quality Management Unit for over a year, the HDMTL has passed the Hong Kong Quality Assurance Agency’s (HKQAA’s) certification audit. The Occupational Health and Safety Assessment Series (OHSAS) 18001 Occupational Health and Safety Management System Certificate was presented to the Housing Department in recognition of our effective management in providing and maintaining a safe and healthy work environment in the HDMTL. The HDMTL is the first HA’s unit to be certified for OHSAS 18001.

We plan to extend the OHSAS 18001 certification programme to other operations and activities in the coming years, with a view to strengthening our commitment to continual enhancement of the occupational health and safety for our staff.
