With autumn approaching, it is getting dryer and windy. Recent fire incidents in public rental housing (PRH) estates have aroused public concern over fire safety.

Fire safety has always been a major focus of the Housing Department. Apart from providing comprehensive fire services installations, we have also launched publicity programmes in public housing estates through broadcasts on the Housing Channel and the radio, and by posters and pamphlets, all of which are designed to raise tenants’ awareness of fire safety and advise them how to escape in a fire.

In addition to organising fire drills, we encourage tenants to join the Fire Services Department’s (FSD’s) Estate Fire Safety Ambassador Scheme, which aims at promoting fire safety awareness and sharing fire safety messages. Our EMAC (Estate Management Advisory Committee) Award Scheme on Fire Safety Promotion is another effective way of raising tenants' awareness of fire prevention issues. To make tenants more familiar with how to use fire hose reels, stickers outlining the five steps for operating the hose reels have recently been extended to all our lifts, in addition to those mounted alongside each fire hose reel.

We will continue to arrange PRH visits by the FSD’s Mobile Publicity Unit and Fire Safety Education Bus. These visits offer tenants interactive games and escape simulations, under the supervision of FSD officers, that impart basic fire safety knowledge and introduce emergency escape measures.
