The Estate Management Division of the Housing Department (HD) has recently participated in the “South-South Cooperation Programme on Accessibility for Persons with Disabilities” of the United Nations' (UN's) Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP). Jointly organised by ESCAP, the Government of the PRC and the China Disabled Persons' Federation, the Programme has been held in Guangzhou, Macao and Hong Kong. Over 100 government officials and accessibility experts from various countries shared their experience in a view to enhance knowledge of making public facilities usable by all different abilities and to promote inclusive design in their respective countries.
At the seminar the HD representative shared our experience in continuous effort to promote barrier-free community in public housing estates. The delegations were then arranged to visit the Domain and Yau Tong Estate to facilitate their understanding of our initiatives in developing a barrier-free environment in Hong Kong.
