The presentation ceremony of the 8^th Estate Management Advisory Committee (EMAC) Award Scheme on Estate Fire Safety Promotion 2014/15 was held on 16 April. Eighteen EMACs were awarded, including Kwai Shing West Estate, Shek Yam East Estate and On Yam Estate of Kwai Chung District; Lam Tin Estate, Yau Lai Estate and Choi Hung Estate of Kowloon East District; Model Housing Estate, Siu Sai Wan Estate and Fu Cheong Estate of Kowloon West & Hong Kong District; Mei Lam Estate, Sun Tin Wai Estate and Hau Tak Estate of Tai Po, North, Shatin & Sai Kung District; Yau Oi Estate, Tin Tsz Estate and Tin Yiu Estate of Tuen Mun & Yuen Long District; and Lok Fu Estate, Tsz Hong Estate and Choi Wan (I) Estate of Wong Tai Sin, Tsing Yi, Tsuen Wan & Island District.

Officiating at the award presentation ceremony, Mr Leung Sai Chi, Assistant Director of Housing (Estate Management), appreciated the efforts of the winning EMACs. He also appealed to all EMACs to support and actively participate in the regular fire drills organised by individual estates and to help promote awareness of fire risks amongst their neighbours. As a token of encouragement, the winning EMACs have been awarded additional funding for their fire safety promotional activities in the coming year.

To help tenants better understand the proper way of operating a fire hose reel, the Housing Department (HD) has posted illustrations detailing the operating steps next to every fire hose reel and inside all lift cars in its housing estates. In addition, the HD is producing a number of fire hose reel demonstration kits to train tenants during housing estate fire drills. The first of these kits has already been tried out at Lok Fu Estate and Yat Tung Estate, and the training sessions were well received by tenants.
