Joint Workshop for Ready Mixed Concrete Quality and Supply Chain Sustainability

With the increasing demand for public housing and limited land available for development, most of our sites are often exposed to various site constraints that pose many challenges on planning, design and construction. The Hong Kong Housing Authority’s (HA) concern lies not only on the problems encountered in construction logistics, but also on how to maintain a stable quality concrete supply from source to site in the market. To address this issue, we organised a workshop “Ready Mixed Concrete Quality and Supply Chain Sustainability” in June for over 40 participants from stakeholders including representatives from the Hong Kong Construction Association Limited (HKCA), Hong Kong Construction Association Piling Contractors Committee (HKCAPCC), Hong Kong Construction Materials Association Limited (HKCMA) and Association of Construction Materials Laboratories Limited (ACML). The discussion covered issues on concrete production, productivity, product quality, construction programme, etc. Through active interaction, all parties were able to communicate openly on the barriers encountered and come up with creative ideas for overcoming the hurdles. The findings in the workshop were fruitful for the HA to enhance the concrete quality control and supply chain sustainability for coming challenges, such as strengthening the coordination on site to facilitate a more comprehensive concrete supply chain. |
