Public Housing Vistas – Wah Ha Estate
Main content |
Located in the Eastern District of Hong Kong Island, Wah Ha Estate was converted from the former Chai Wan Factory Estate, a Grade 2 historic building. It was completed in 2016, providing 187 public rental housing flats in a six-storey H-shaped block. The conversion brought new life to the historic building without any damage to the building façade. Green roofs and an open landscaped courtyard were also carefully designed, creating an urban oasis within an existing industrial setting. The project has won the highest honour in the Residential category, at the Hong Kong Institute of Architects Cross-Strait Architectural Design Awards 2017. The Facebook of “Public Housing Vistas” of the Hong Kong Housing Authority has included some old and new photos on the estate for sharing. |
