Message from the Director

The long heat wave and a relatively dry spell in recent weeks remind us once again of the need to save fresh water. For years, we have been encouraging colleagues to conserve water. In 2004/05, we began to set an annual water conservation target for the Housing Authority Headquarters (HAHQs), which we have since met every year. In 2017/18, HAHQs used 11 042 cubic metres of water, less than the target by 17%, and less than the target set a decade ago by 28%. All this is a result of colleagues’ concerted efforts and the measures implemented by the Department, such as installing auto-sensor water taps with Grade 1 water efficiency rating, regular inspection of pipes and providing tips to staff on how to preserve this precious resource. Looking ahead, we endeavour to use less than 3.25 cubic metres per staff member in HAHQs in 2018/19, down 1% compared to our baseline consumption in 2015/16 under comparable operating conditions. I hope every one of us will continue to take action and save water for the environment. |
