The Hong Kong Housing Authority (HA) is committed to promoting environmental protection and greening. To create an eco-friendly environment across estates, the HA encourages public housing tenants to participate actively in green activities. In September, the Tree Management and Horticulture Sub-section joined hands with respective estate offices to launch a Green Delight in Estates (Eastern District) campaign, with a view to disseminating the green message among estate tenants in the Eastern District of Hong Kong Island. An array of activities was arranged, including Green Living in the Eastern District cum Tree Planting Day in Wan Tsui Estate, Mid-Autumn Festival cum Green Carnivals in Hing Man Estate and Hing Tung Estate, as well as Community Garden Days in Hing Wah (II) Estate and Yue Wan Estate, which were well received by our tenants. |

The Green Carnivals in Hing Man Estate and Hing Tung Estate offered a variety of activities for tenants’ enjoyment. In addition to celebrating the Mid-Autumn Festival; games, quizzes, lantern riddles and tongue twisters around the theme of greening were designed to enrich tenants’ knowledge of the species of common plants in public housing estates and to facilitate them to learn how to grow plants, so as to enhance their care of plants and the environment. |

The Community Garden Days held in Hing Wah (II) Estate and Yue Wan Estate gave tenants a chance to experience farming in the city and to develop their awareness of greening. The promotion booths and display boards set up for the activity also enlightened tenants on organic farming. Instructors demonstrated planting techniques on the spot, while the participants can try to grow vegetables and fruits and share their future harvests. |
