Hong Kong Housing Authority and Housing Department

The Housing Department (HD) has been honoured with the winner award (Client/Client’s representative group) in the A&A and Conversion Category and the Caring Practice Award in the Building Surveyor Awards 2019 organised by the Hong Kong Institute of Surveyors.

The entry “Connect Old and New – Addition of Lift Towers at Cheung Ching Estate” showcased the HD’s sustainable maintenance strategy by rejuvenating an old estate to reinforce community bonding and cater for the needs of different age groups, the elderly tenants in particular. Our project management team demonstrated professionalism from planning and design to completion, displaying the core values of the Hong Kong Housing Authority, i.e. caring, customer-focused, creative and committed.

The jury panel commended that the project “achieved all the caring aspects required”. The provision of new lift towers at strategic locations facilitates accessibility between building blocks and major facilities at different levels and locations, including commercial centres, restaurants, shops, the market, the community centre and the bus terminus. The team has engaged stakeholders, such as tenants, the district councillor and non-governmental organisations, in achieving the caring results for the residents.
