I attended the annual Extra Mile Card Plan awards presentation ceremony held by the Department on 15 December. The objective of the Extra Mile Card Plan is to recognise the exceptionally meritorious performance of colleagues, who have walked an extra mile in work. We received a very positive response this year. Out of the 40 teams nominated, 22 teams and one individual were selected for the awards, rendering a total of 792 award-winning colleagues, the highest number ever awarded. Most of the award-winning teams were involved in anti-epidemic work, who were commended in recognition of their efforts in preventing and combating the epidemic over the past year or so during which they have walked an extra mile for the residents of public housing estates and the entire community.

In addition, various teams of the Department have won awards given by professional institutes recently. For instance, three of our public housing developments received five awards, including the winner awards and the “Project of the Year” award, from the Hong Kong Institute of Project Management and the Asia Pacific Federation of Project Management. In addition, three public housing estates gained the “Excellence in Facility Management Awards (Public Rental & Subsidised Purchase Housing)” from the Hong Kong Institute of Facility Management. All these awards mark the outstanding achievements of colleagues in project management, building design and facility management, which are well recognised by the industry.

The Department is also honoured to have received the “Ombudsman’s Award 2021 for Public Organisations” at the presentation ceremony of The Ombudsman’s Awards on 4 November 2021. It came as a great encouragement to us as colleagues’ efforts and performance in handling complaints were recognised by the Office of the Ombudsman.

The professionalism of colleagues and their drive for continuous improvement are indeed the key to successive winning of awards. I trust that all of you will keep up the good work, and continue to provide quality homes and services to the public.
