Completed in 1968 and built on a hilly topography of Hong Kong South, Wah Fu Estate is the first public housing estate developed with a "township" concept. Dr Donald Liao, the architect of the estate, adopted designs of platforms, staircases, slopes, linkages and "sky lobbies" within housing blocks to align with the landscape design, in a view to facilitating residents to stroll freely among these areas, creating communal public spaces and connecting residents. The planning and architectural design was very forward-looking in the 1960s. |
