I attended the awards presentation ceremony of the 2022-23 Extra Mile Card Plan held by our Department on 27 March. We were honoured to have Dr Johnnie Chan, Chairman of the HA’s Building Committee, and Ms Cissy Chan, Chairman of the Housing Authority’s (HA’s) Audit Sub-Committee, as our award presenters.
The Department has organised the Extra Mile Card Plan since 2008, with the main objective to recognise staff members for exceptionally meritorious performance, and to encourage colleagues to “go an extra mile” beyond their assigned duties. This year’s Extra Mile Card Plan drew an overwhelming response, with a total of 41 nominations received. Of the nominated teams, 22 teams with colleagues from different units and professions were selected for the awards, rendering a total of 1 545 award-winning colleagues, the highest number ever awarded. The acclaimed performance was in various areas covering anti-epidemic work, emergency response, building alterations, development and application of innovative technologies (including the use of artificial intelligence to help verify documents to increase efficiency), implementation of relief measures for people and promotion of environmental protection.
At the awards presentation ceremony, members of the award-winning teams shared the difficulties they encountered and how they overcame various challenges with unfailing determination. Some retired colleagues made the effort to come back to share the joy of winning the awards with their former teammates. There was also a former colleague on the opposite coast of the Pacific Ocean who witnessed this crucial moment and shared his feelings through live webcast in the early hours. I was deeply touched by the professionalism of these teams, who were united in shouldering responsibilities and striving for perfection.
Once again, I would like to thank colleagues for their strenuous efforts. My sincere congratulations go to each and every award recipient.
