I assumed the post of Permanent Secretary for Housing / Director of Housing on 15 August to succeed Miss Agnes Wong Tin-yu, who has proceeded on pre-retirement leave. Housing policy tops the agenda of the Government’s work, and I look forward, in my new position, to serving the citizens in a pragmatic manner for their well-being with every one of you in the Housing Department (HD).
I was delighted to attend the experience sharing session cum presentation ceremony of the 2023 Government Summer Internship Programme of the Department and meet students who participated in the Internship Programme on 31 August. During the past two to three months of the internship, student interns were assigned to different sections in the HD. The HD arranged for them a series of briefing sessions, visits and experience activities. In addition to meeting with colleagues of the management, the students participated in the briefing sessions on Building Information Modelling and estate maintenance and visited various places and installations, including the new Home Ownership Scheme project site in Kai Tak, the Solar Photovoltaic system in Lok Wah North Estate, the Automated Refuse Collection System in Kwai Chung Estate and the office of the Green Form Subsidised Home Ownership Scheme Sales Unit in Kwun Tong. From their internship, students have gained valuable work experience and a better grasp of the HD’s operation.
During the experience sharing session, students enthusiastically shared their experience and memories of internship at different positions. This would help us further enhance the Summer Internship Programme in the future, in the hope of enriching the internship experience for future participants. We need to attract outstanding talents and young people who are anxious to serve the public to join the Government, and I sincerely hope that more students will join the HD after graduation to realise their potential.
Since assuming office, I have been fully engaged in work, and tried my best to familiarise myself with the wide range of topics which are all important and interesting, though by no means easy. I have started to visit offices of different sub-divisions since late August to meet with colleagues of various grades both in the management and at the frontline, and received briefings on different dimensions and scope of the HD’s work. I am very grateful to colleagues for their warm reception and look forward to meeting more of you in the days to come.
