Epidemic Prevention

The most effective way to avoid falling victim to flu viruses and other epidemic diseases is to maintain good hygiene habits in your everyday life and take precautions to prevent infestation by rodents. Here are some easy-to-follow tips.

Personal Hygiene

  1. Wash hands frequently and especially after coughing, sneezing, going to the toilet or making contact with animals or poultry
  2. Wash hands thoroughly with liquid soap and rub the palms, back of hands, between fingers, back of fingers, thumbs, finger tips and wrists for at least 20 seconds
  3. Avoid touching the mouth, nose and eyes
  4. Cover the nose and mouth with clean handkerchief or tissue paper when sneezing or coughing
  5. Do not go to work or school, and wear surgical mask if you develop influenza-like symptoms
  6. Wear surgical mask when going to crowded or poorly ventilated places is unavoidable

Domestic Hygiene

  1. Keep windows open for good indoor ventilation
  2. Clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces, furniture, toys, utensils, toilets, bathrooms and the floor at least daily with 1 part of household bleach in 99 parts of water
  3. If places are contaminated by respiratory secretions, vomits or excreta, use disposable towels to wipe them away and disinfect with 1 part of household bleach in 49 parts of water
  4. Wrap up and store rubbish and food remnants in a dustbin with a well fitted cover and empty the dustbin at least once everyday
  5. Always clean up disused articles

Eliminate Food Sources for Rodents

  1. Keep your home and the surrounding areas clean
  2. Store food properly
  3. Keep all refuse and food remnants in dustbins with wellfitted covers
  4. Refuge bags should be tied up to prevent spillage, and then disposed of properly in refuse collection area

Eliminate Rodent Harbourages

  1. Clear away the refuse and disused articles at homes and in the communal areas of a building
  2. Regularly clear up the void underneath or behind bulky furniture
  3. Seal any holes or crevices in the ceilings, walls or floors
  4. Keep flowerbeds clean and tidy without accumulation of refuse and articles
